Modelling the Infrared Emission from the HR 4796 A Disk

چکیده
We model the spectral energy distribution (SED) from the mid-infrared to submil-limeter of the ring-like disk of HR 4796A, the dustiest A-type star. We consider dust made either of coagulated but otherwise unaltered protostellar interstellar grains, or grains that are highly-processed in a protostellar/protoplanetary nebula with silicate dust annealed and carbon dust oxidized. Both types of dust are successful in reproducing the observed SED, provided that the grains are highly fluffy, with a vacuum volume fraction of ∼ 90%. We find no evidence for the existence of a hot " zodiacal dust " component a few AU from the star, which was suggested by previous workers to account for the 10 µm-wavelength emission. Mid-infrared Imaging of a Circumstellar Disk around Hr 4796: Mapping the Debris of Planetary Formation
We report the discovery of a circumstellar disk around the young A0 star HR 4796 in thermal infrared imaging carried out at the W. M. Keck Observatory. By fitting a model of the emission from a flat dusty disk to an image at mm, we derive a disk inclination, from face-on, with the long axis of emission at P.A. C C16 l 5 20.8 i 5 72 C 29 . The intensity of emission does not decrease with radius,...
متن کاملWhat Can We Learn from the Infrared Spectral Energy Distributions of Dust Disks ?
The spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of dust disks are widely used to infer dust properties (compositions and sizes) and disk structures (dust spatial distributions) which might be indicative of the presence or absence of planets or smaller bodies like asteroids and comets in the disk. Based on modelling of the SED of HR 4796A, a young main-sequence star with the largest fractional infrared...
متن کاملThe Gemini NICI planet-finding campaign: The offset ring of HR 4796 A⋆⋆⋆
We present J,H, CH4 short (1.578 μm), CH4 long (1.652 μm) and Ks-band images of the dust ring around the 10 Myr old star HR 4796 A obtained using the Near Infrared Coronagraphic Imager (NICI) on the Gemini-South 8.1 m Telescope. Our images clearly show for the first time the position of the star relative to its circumstellar ring thanks to NICI’s translucent focal plane occulting mask. We emplo...
متن کاملA stellar coronograph for the COME - ON - PLUS adaptive optics system ?
We present here the first scientific results obtained with the coronograph described by Beuzit et al. (1996, hereafter paper I), developed to be used together with the come-on-plus/adonis adaptive optics (AO) system. Two IRAS excess Main Sequence (MS) stars, namely HR 4796 and HR 2020 (β Pictoris), have been observed. No circumstellar disk is detected around HR 4796, down to 2′′ from the star. ...
متن کاملThe Dust and Gas Content of a Disk around the Young Star HR 4796A
We have used the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope in Hawaii to search at submillimeter wavelengths for continuum emission from dust, and spectral line emission from carbon monoxide (CO) gas, in the neighborhood of HR 4796A. This young star has a dusty disk with a central cavity, where planets may have formed. We detect the dust component at a wavelength of 850 μm, and the inferred mass of solid ma...
